Measurement, Control, and Tracking Technologies Used in Soccer Players' Training: A Review
Abstract
This study addresses the literature concerning the use of technological tools for precise measurement and comprehensive recording of soccer player performance, focusing on indoor soccer. The purpose of this research is to explore the current landscape of technological instruments employed to analyze and quantify soccer players. A systematic search encompassing databases such as Scopus, Science Direct, and Web of Science was conducted between 2014 and 2021 using specific domain keywords. This study follows the PRISMA method for selecting and including articles in the review. From 29 papers meeting the inclusion criteria, it becomes evident that the current literature lacks coverage of technological tools applied to analyze technical actions, particularly among goalkeepers. Despite this, frequently used systems for measurement, control, and monitoring include GPS (42%), GPS + accelerometers (41%), and systems using IMUs (17%). The study underscores the need for further research to enhance the comprehensive understanding of performance across all soccer players, encompassing both field players (86%) and goalkeepers (14%). In its contribution, this literature review lays a foundational basis for future research endeavors in this domain, facilitating advancements in soccer player performance analysis.
Keywords: soccer, tracking, global positioning systems, inertial measurement units, motion capture systems, goalkeeper.
