Assessment of the Condition of Limboto Lake as a Flood Control Storage
Abstract
This research intends to evaluate the condition of Limboto Lake as a flood control storage in Gorontalo Province. Limboto Lake is located in Gorontalo Province as the part and a laguna that has the estuary in Bolango River and Bone River. The geological process as the tectonic movement has separated the laguna from the sea and formed the freshwater lake. The lake water comes from 23 affluents that flow into the lake from the northern, western, and southern catchment areas. The area of Limboto Lake is 4,410.72 ha. The methodology consists of literature study, collecting secondary data, analyzing secondary data, and evaluating the secondary data analysis. The result shows that the rainfall data availability, which is from six rainfall stations spread in the Limboto Lake catchment area, is still less (less than 20 years), so to complete and generate the rainfall data, the result of satellite observation, Global Precipitation Measurement (GPM), is used. The design flood due to some return periods is 1,553.2 m3/dt for Q25years, 1,876.7 m3/s for Q50years, 2,205.8 m3/s for Q100years, 3,364 m3/s for Q1000years, and 4,839.4 m3/s for QPMF. The result of flood routing in Limboto Lake is obtained that the condition of embankment is still safe if there is happened the design flood less than 1,000 years return period. However, if there is the PMF discharge, so it will lead to Limboto Lake embankment overtopping.
